The department of R&D coordination was established in the early 1990s. The department consists of an R&D planning and coordination team, a patent team, an editor, a translator, a scientific and technical library, a postgraduate department, a typing office, an artist, a computer specialist, and a content manager. The total number of employees is 15 people.
The R&D planning and coordination team carries out scientific and organizational work on the general planning of research work, editing and preparing long-term, five-year and annual thematic and calendar plans for the institute and its experimental stations. It prepares and executes short and detailed reports on the results of the scientific and production activities of the institute based on the reports of the scientific and production departments.
The patent team provides an expert opinion on all research subjects of the institute to determine their technical level, patentability and patent purity, prepares application documents for the granting of patents for technical inventions as well as applications to the State Commission for Testing and Protection of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation for the granting of patents and for admission to use of new breeding achievements of the institute and its experimental stations.
The scientific library of the institute was founded on the 7th of July, 1924 and today it has the richest collection of literature on oil crops and other related branches — from the domestic publications of the XVIII century to the most modern ones. The total collection of the library comprises about 100 thousand printed items.
The editorial team consists of an editor, a proofreader and a translator who prepare the scientific works of the institute for publication. The editor completes, edits, and prepares for publication of the journal «Oil Crops», scientific works of the institute: thematic collections, books, scientific and technical bulletins, brochures, catalogues, recommendations, manuals, practical guides and other scientific products.
The institute has been training scientific personnel through postgraduate courses since 1932. At the present time scientific personnel is trained in 6 fields, including breeding and seed production of agricultural plants, general agriculture, plant production, agrochemistry, plant protection, technology and means of mechanization of agriculture, economics and management of national economy.
The scientific management of postgraduate training is carried out by leading scientists of the institute. Over the years, 445 people have graduated from VNIIMK postgraduate courses and 334 of them have defended their PhD theses.
The department of R&D coordination oversees the Museum of academician V. S. Pustovoit which was opened in 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founder of the institute. Employees of the department conducts tours of the museum for scientists, specialists, students and schoolchildren.
