Since 1970, the institute has been carrying out research into the development of technologies for the propagation of oil plant breeding material in the autumn-winter-spring period in greenhouses and chambers with artificial climates. The initiative to establish the phytotron was taken by academician V. S. Pustovoit. V. I. Klyuka and I. I. Veter contributed significantly to the realization of the project and the development of the complex.

At present, at the request of breeders, the phytotron-greenhouse complex carries out a lot of work on evaluation of breeding material for resistance to main pathogens, soil control of parental forms, obtaining experimental hybrid combinations, accelerated development of CMS and analogous lines with new composition of fatty acids, tocopherols and other biochemical components in oil.

The use of phytotron technology as a factor of intensification of the breeding process makes it possible to accelerate the development of new varieties and hybrids of oil crops by 2-3 times, thus increasing the competitiveness of the scientific products of VNIIMK.

Sunflower hybrids

All sunflower hybrids are developed using parent material adapted to local conditions. The offered sunflower hybrids are resistant to the complex of the main pathogens (broomrape, downy mildew, Phomopsis blight)

Sunflower varieties

— resistant to diseases, pests and broomrape
— provide a real opportunity for steady receiving of high-quality oil in all climatic zones of crop cultivation
— meet the requirements of modern production to the fullest extent

Soybean

Meant for cultivation in main and repeated sowings, for replanting other crops, suitable for growing in short-term (2-4 field) crop rotations and monoculture

Rapeseed

— non-erucic, low-glucosinolate (type “00”)
— guarantee the production of oil and meal of international standards quality
— have high seed productivity and oil content
— winter-resistant

Turnip rapeseed

The main advantages in comparison with rapeseed is a shorter growth season, high oil content and yellow seed coloring (type “00”)

Mustard

— source of receiving of edible oil, as well as high-quality mustard powder
— well-adapted to climatic conditions of all cultivation areas
— diverse in agronomic characters

False flax

Oil flax

— developed using domestic parent material adapted to various cultivation conditions
— uniform in flowering and ripening
— resistant to Fusarium blight, biotic and abiotic environmental factors
— have a stable yield, good response to high soil fertility
— drought-resistant, easily producible, reliable
