Recently, winter mustard is becoming popular due to the growing demand for mustard oil seeds. Due to its higher yield potential, winter mustard can be an alternative to spring mustard in very arid regions of cultivation of this crop, for instance, in the northern regions of the Krasnodar, Rostov and Volgograd regions.
The oil obtained from the seeds of the winter mustard cultivar Dzhuna does not contain erucic acid, therefore, it belongs to the category of edible oils. The meal (cake) is suitable for use as a mustard powder for making of prepared mustard and as a feed concentrate for farm animals. The plants of the cultivar Dzhuna are able to endure minimum air temperatures of -14 °С in the absence of snow cover and soil temperatures of -8 °С at the depth of a root neck (3 cm).
Characteristics of the cultivar Dzhuna
A highly productive cultivar characterized by high plant growth rates during the autumn growth season. The cultivar is resistant to seed cast, tolerant to the affection by the main pathogens, which makes it possible to reduce crop losses during ripening and harvesting. It is responsive to high soil fertility and technologically simple for harvesting.
