The team of the department carries out research and carries out development of methods and devices for non-destructive control of quality parameters of oil crops and their products, as well as means of their metrological support.

Since the beginning of 1973, the department has been carrying out research on the development of NMR express analyzers for oil content and moisture of seeds of oil crops. The research results were handed over to the USSR Ministry of Instrumentation for preparation and organization of serial production of such analyzers. The device was named «Express-analyzer AMV-1002».

Further, in 1986 the AMV-1006 analyzer was developed. In 1998, specialists of the department of physical methods of research together with the Ural Research Institute of Metrology (Yekaterinburg) improved the AMV-1006 analyzer. They developed, agreed and approved all the necessary technical, methodological and metrological documents and organized production of the upgraded version of the AMV-1006M analyzer and state standard samples 3107-3112-84 at VNIIMK.

At present, more than 80% of the vegetable oil produced in Russia is produced by the enterprises (more than 250 oil producing plants), acceptance and processing of raw materials on which is controlled by NMR analyzers AMV-1006M.

The Department of Physical Methods of Research of VNIIMK has also been entrusted by the Russian State Standard with annual periodic verifications, maintenance of all analyzers AMV-1006M in operation and annual re-evaluation of standard samples.

Currently, the department is conducting research into the development of express hardware methods for the determination of protein content in agricultural and food raw materials, as well as the development of instruments for the realization of these methods.

For the development of quantitative NMR analyzers of oil content and moisture and their introduction in the enterprises of the oil and fat industry and in the breeding and seed-growing organizations, the authors of the department were awarded the Krasnodar Region Administration Prize in the field of science in 1999.
