“Say a word about winter rapeseed…”

Most of the precipitation falls in February - March. While in May – July, as a rule, there is a drought, which affects the growth season, and therefore the yield of crops. Due to the waterlogged soil in February - March, we cannot carry out the field work, in particular, to sow cold-resistant spring crops in time. The conclusion is evident: it is necessary to structure the agrarian business in such a way that in the autumn there are carried out as much as possible technological operations on the fields, and the preference is given to winter crops.

First, it involves the expanding of their sown area. And it does not apply to wheat and barley. The crop rotation is full of them in accordance with scientific recommendations – half of the area in the region is given to them. Then, what it is all about?

About winter rapeseed. Andrey Korobka, vice-governor for the agroindustrial complex, believes that in the very near future the Kuban agricultural producers will be able to triple (up to 100 thousand hectares) the sowings of this cruciferous crop, the first cultivation of which is dated back to 4000 BC. The same opinion is shared by the Minister of Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Krasnodar region Fyodor Dereka, with whom our reporter met for a conversation.
